AIMSweb
In order to meet the needs of our students, we needed to assess what they knew. The virtual environment brought an added layer of difficulty in assessing students, especially our youngest learners.
I created an Assessment Team comprised of my partner SBTL, all of our reading specialists, and myself. We had to create student facing slide decks in order for our students to be able to follow along with us.
Teachers were very grateful for our assistance.
iReady
Our teachers needed a refresher on how to use iReady data to guide their instruction. I worked with our Technology Teacher Leader to create professional development for our teachers around both iReady Reading and Math.
Reflection
"...Having students see their own data and create goals and plans around increasing their performance can counteract the effects of poverty (McDonald, 2019). I have seen what this powerful tool can do to increase student achievement. It not only gives students something to focus on, it gives them the tools to be able to obtain those goals. I am worried that in the virtual environment, we will not be able to effectively do that..."
“Assessment for, as, and of learning all have a role to play in supporting and improving student learning, and must be appropriately balanced. The most important part of assessment is the interpretation and use of the information that is gleaned for its intended purpose.”
